From the beginning, we at Advance At Home Physical Therapy have been driven to accomplish a singular mission: to maximize the independence and wellness of our clients in the comfort and privacy of their homes. With that in mind, our team of highly qualified, fully licensed physical therapists have dedicated themselves to developing a broad skill set that allows them to treat a wide variety of conditions that affect the day-to-day lives of patients all across Nassau County. One of those conditions is Parkinson’s Disease.  If you live in Nassau County and are in need of home care physical therapy for Parkinson’s, Advance at Home Physical Therapy can help you!

Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive neurological condition that involves the slow malfunction and eventual death of neurons in the brain that produce dopamine, the chemical that helps the brain allow the body to move properly. As the neurons die, the brain’s dopamine levels decrease and bodily movements become more difficult to control. There is currently no cure for Parkinson’s Disease. However, physical therapy is one method of care that can help to manage each patient’s specific case so that they are able to maintain their independence for as long as possible. Physical therapists can be helpful in allowing Parkinson’s patients to be safe and independent in their own homes in the following ways:

  • Making adjustments to the home environment, such as clearing the hallways of clutter and improving the lighting, in an effort to reduce the risk of falling.
  • Maintaining the patient’s muscle strength, endurance, and flexibility through various stretches and weight exercises.
  • Teaching the patient new methods of getting in and out of bed, chairs, and cars that require minimal physical effort.
  • Improving and maintaining the patient’s coordination through continuous walking and balance exercises/
